Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin is happy at Rangers but faces uncertainty over his future beyond the January transfer window. The 25-year-old, who scored his first goal of the season in last weekend's 2-2 draw at Dundee, has been linked with a summer move and was even left out of some games amid speculation.
Raskin has made over 150 appearances for Rangers since joining in January 2023. He also has 22 caps for the Red Devils, a call-up he partly credits to his time in Scotland. "I've never been pushing for something because I'm really happy here," said Raskin. "This club helped me join the Belgian national team, which is a big, big thing."
Rangers manager Derek McInnes has made it clear he does not want to lose key personnel in January. "We're not looking to lose players in January and Nico's been a key player for us," McInnes said. "Hopefully he's a key player in a successful Rangers team this season."
The player is under contract until 2028 and the Scottish club maintains a valuation of around £20 million. No bid has come close to that figure, and the club is under no pressure to sell. Raskin admitted he considered a new challenge after the World Cup, and turned down a move to Besiktas while waiting for an opportunity from one of Europe's top five leagues. "If an opportunity comes in January, we will see," he added, while reaffirming his current happiness at the club.
This uncertainty comes as Belgium prepares for its next fixture away to Türkiye on November 12. The national team has a mixed record in its last four outings, with two wins and two losses, including a heavy 4-1 defeat to France on October 5.
For now, Raskin is a regular starter, having begun Rangers' last seven matches. A bid meeting Rangers' valuation, however, could alter the picture by next summer, when the player will have just one year left on his deal. The club already rebuffed several approaches for the midfielder during the summer window, underlining their desire to keep him.
